“I finished more paintings, wrote more, joined a book club — and did all of it from a place of easygoing joy instead of panicked juggling.”
You know what you want (or need) to do. Why is it so difficult to actually do?
This is the cycle so many of us find ourselves in:
We care deeply about something, or need to do something.
We genuinely intend to do it, and then... we don't.
Something gets in the way. The week pass.
Then comes the voice: what is wrong with you & we spend so much energy beating ourselves up than the task ever would have taken.
Over time, the guilt and shame becomes an internalized wound where we don’t believe in ourselves or ability to do.
We try everything. Giving ourselves a stern talk. Starting over on every new moon. Learning every productivity tool, hack or planner under the sun (some of them worked — for a little while.)
What the productivity industry doesn't want us to know
It’s human to struggle to follow through.
We live inside systems — capitalism, white supremacy, patriarchy, ableism — that have a vested interest in us believing that our worth is measured by our output, that rest is something we have to earn, and that if we’re struggling to get things done, the problem is us. Not the systems. Not the impossible standards.
But it’s completely and utterly normal to struggle when we:
have so many things we wanna do but we don’t know where to start or the thing feels ten times bigger than it is
feel afraid of doing things ‘wrong’
set expectations so high that anything less than perfect feels like failure
sometimes totally forget to do it
are exhausted from all the paid and unpaid labor that never truly stops
are navigating relationships, workplaces, or dynamics that make it difficult to show up for yourself
are living in a body or brain that doesn't fit the productivity mold — and getting told that's the problem
feel the weight of the world, and finding consistent energy for the things that matter is genuinely hard
None of this is procrastination. Or ‘bad’ at following through.
Its a completely rational response to the irrational conditions of living in this world.
“Some of the most grounded, specific inner work I’ve ever done.
I was deep in hustle culture, pushing way too hard for the health of my mind, body, and spirit — and I didn’t fully see it until now.”
We actually don't need
more willpower or discipline.
Here’s the quick science:
Pressure, shame, and unrealistic expectations activate our nervous system's threat response — fight, flight, freeze. In that state, the parts of our brain needed for follow-through (planning, prioritizing, memory, regulation, initiation) literally turn off.
You probably already know in your body that force creates resistance. Resistance creates avoidance. Avoidance creates guilt and shame.
Research shows the key elements common in gentle parenting — empathy, respect, and responsive guidance — correlate with better self-control, cooperation, and emotional regulation.
Follow Through Gently
Follow Through Gently is a consent, body-based, relational approach to doing. It is built on the premise that you are not a machine to be optimized, or a failure that needs surveillance and punishment.
You are a whole person to be supported.
This 5-week live group program for anyone who wants to stop knuckling their way through their lives and learn a healthy, genuinely sustainable way of doing.
Not productivity for productivity's sake. Not output as a measure of worth. But the deep satisfaction of moving toward what you actually care about without abandoning yourself in the process.
By the end of these five weeks, you will have:
Accomplished many of things you've been carrying around, releasing tons of mental load and pressure
Fundamentally changed how you relate to yourself as a do-er and when any friction comes up
Learned how to do with incredibly less friction and more ease as a new baseline
Integrated a follow through framework that applies to everything in your life — your self-care, work, creativity, relationships, activism, habits, and more.
How our five weeks will unfold
Each week we meet live as a group where we go deep on one piece of the follow-through puzzle so you can better understand yourself and actually move forward (effectively + gently + safely).
Week 1 — Seeing The Cycle You're not lazy, broken, or lacking discipline. We start with deeply understanding what’s been happening with your follow through. We name the cycle, we look at the Follow Through Wound, and make sense of your unique experience.
Week 2 — Gentle as Effective This week we talk about what actually moves us forward instead of guilt, pressure, or punishment. We look at what genuinely creates follow-through, why everything you've been told to try hasn’t worked, and what it feels like to start doing things from a place of safety and body-based consent.
Week 3 — Friction Tending This is where we get into the specific things that stop you from doing: the internal stuff, the relational stuff, and the systemic stuff nobody else is naming. You'll leave knowing exactly what your friction is made of and what to do when it shows up.
Week 4 — Gentle Tools This is where we take everything you've been learning and bring it into the actual tools and systems of your life — your calendar, your lists, your routines, whatever you're working with. You’ll learn how to use them in safe and body-based consent ways so they feel supportive instead of constricting.
Week 5 — Becoming the Person Who Follows Through This week is about creating a permanent shift in how you relate to yourself as a do-er. You are someone who knows what to do when resistance happens, who doesn't spiral for days when they miss something, who trusts themselves in a way that used to feel impossible. We make that shift conscious, we make it yours, and we make it last.
Live Calls Each live call will include a conceptual teaching, an embodied practice, live Q&A, and time to commune with each other.
Recordings All calls are recorded if you can't be there live because life happens, and that's more than okay here.
Weekly hypnosis audios One per week to support what we covered in session from the unconscious, nervous system level making it stick even more. They are yours to keep and return to whenever you need them.
Workbooks Weekly (concise) editable Google Doc workbook to further support in reflection and implementation.
Signal group chat A space to post when you're up against friction and to be witnessed and celebrate moments of follow through.
Collaborative resource library A living, growing collection of tools, readings, songs, memes, and whatever else we find useful or delightful. Everyone adds freely.
“I felt stressed about my to-do list constantly, especially when I was supposed to be off and present with my family. What surprised me was how much the inner stuff shaped the practical stuff. I thought I just needed better systems. What I didn’t expect was that examining how I thought would be what actually made the systems work.”
Who this program is for
This program is for anyone who sets intentions and struggles to follow through on them. It doesn't matter what area of life you're applying it to, or what you do for work, or whether you've tried a hundred other approaches before.
This group is a great fit if you:
are tired of forcing yourself to do things and doesn’t work
believe self-compassion and real results can coexist
are neurodivergent, chronically ill, or have fluctuating capacity and are tired of frameworks that weren't made for you
want a practical framework, not only philosophy or a pep talk
are willing to look honestly at what's actually going on internally
thrive in community and love learning alongside other values-aligned humans
It's probably not for you if:
You want someone to push you harder, not differently
You're looking for a strict accountability boot camp
You're not open to the internal or systemic pieces of why we do or don't follow through
“I signed more clients, got engaged, volunteered for the election campaign, worked through my customer service workflow in Dubsado, and found a way to schedule the tasks that were really important to me.”
Who I am
Hi, I'm Becca Rich (she/her). By training I'm an engineer, which might seem like a strange origin story for someone who now spends her days running an anticapitalist project management & operations collective and doing hypnosis & time liberation education.
I've been learning and doing this work since around 2015 and teaching follow through gently to hundreds since 2022. The through line has always been the same: how do we do without letting it define and consume us?
My work is trauma-aware, neurodivergence-affirming, anticapitalist, and draws on neuroscience, parts work, somatic and energy-based approaches, and hypnosis. And my people are creatives, deep feelers, unconventional thinkers.
I don't believe in productivity for its own sake. I believe in being able to do what we need to do, take care of ourselves, and have a life — on our own terms. Despite living in a world that makes that genuinely hard.
